Board Meeting

MILL POND PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES

April 2, 2018

                                                                                                                                                                                        

The meeting was called to order by Erin Witthun at 6:05 p.m.  Others present were Sara Wilson, Kes Thompson, Betty  Kastenschmidt, Kate Tyczinski, Lenny Glover  and Jean Winther.  Joy Waterbury and Kathy Jerome were absent.  Sara certified that the meeting agenda had been posted prior to the meeting.  Motion by Kes and seconded by Jean to approve the minutes for March 5, 2018.   Motion by Jean and seconded by Erin to approve the April treasurer's report.  Both motions passed.   

 

OLD BUSINESS

1.  Spring Fling:  Sara advised that 14 vendors have signed up for tables.  Poster are available for everyone to take.  It was decided to have a potato bar for food.  We will also sell water, soda, coffee and cinnamon rolls.  Sara will put up a signup sheet for the food items needed.  She also said that we could have accordion music available for the day.  Set up will be on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

2.  Tables:  Sara advised that she bought 16 6-foot tables that fold in half for $505.67.  It was decided to sell the brown tables for $30 each.       

  

BUILDING PLANS:

1.  Water System:  Sara advised that we may need a new pressure tank and a new pump.  She advised that the pressure tank was drained and refilled for now to see if that will solve the problem.    

 

NEW BUSINESS

1.  Trustee Picnic:  Sara advused that the 5 Green lake County libraries are planning a Trustee Picnic on Friday, June 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Markesan library.  It will be a good opportunity for the trustees to get together for informal discussions.     

2.  New Board Member:  Sara advised that Cindy Haas and Larry Jenkins have both declined.  Julie Barden is considering the position.

3.  KDM Business Association:  Sara advised that the group has decided to dissolve.  That means they will not be paying for Santa and the Santa bags.  They are donating $225 to the library and the fire departments.   

4.  Seed Exchange:   Sara told about a program that other libraries are trying.  We will have seeds available for patrons to take and plant in their gardens.  In exchange they will be asked to bring in some of the produce they reap to the library.

5.  County-wide Read:  Sara advised that the 5 Green Lake County libraries are sponsoring a county wide read of  "The Crops Look Good" by Sara DeLuca.  There will be various activities relating to the book, including the author coming to speak on October 6.    

 

TOPICS FROM THE FLOOR

Sara advised that the library received a memorial of $479 from the Jim Koopman estate. 

Jean Winther submitted her letter of resignation from the library board.     

 

Motion by Kate and seconded by Jean to adjourn the meeting at 7:43 p.m.
