9/4/19 County Wide Read with Nickolas Butler

The five libraries in Green Lake County (Kingston, Green Lake, Markesan, Princeton, and Berlin) will be holding a county wide read in September. The book we picked this year is "Shotgun Lovesongs" by Nickolas Butler. The story line…..Welcome to Little Wing. It's a place like hundreds of others, but for four boyhood friends―all born and raised in this small Wisconsin town―it is home. One of them never left, is still working the family farm, but the others felt the need to move on. One trades commodities, another took to the rodeo circuit. One of them hit it big as a rock star. And then there's Beth, a woman who has meant something special in each of their lives. When all of them are brought together for a wedding, Little Wing seems even smaller than before. Lifelong bonds remain strong, but there are stresses―among the friends, and between husbands and wives. There will be heartbreak, but there will also be hope, healing, even heroism as these memorable people learn the true meaning of friendship and love. One library customer who is reading the story right now, said, "This could be a book about my hometown."

The County Read will wrap up with a visit from author Nickolas Butler on Saturday, Oct. 5th at 2pm. The event will be held at the Berlin High School Auditorium and free tickets will be available at all Green Lake County libraries in the month of Sept. Mr. Butler was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania but raised in Eau Claire, WI and went to school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He will talk about "Shotgun Lovesongs" and writing in general. Refreshments will be served and there will also be paperback copies of his book available for purchase if interested, for $10.00 each, that Mr. Butler will autograph. (If you’d like to purchase a copy early, we do have books available for sale at the library right now. ) Come join us for this year’s Green Lake County Reads event!
